Etsy Finds - Bunnies

Share |

Easter is on it's way, so I decided I would see what bunnies and rabbit inspired items I could find on Etsy. Here are my favorites:

This bunny pillow is absolutely adorable! It is ideal for a nursery, as the artist makes them from 100% organic cotton, backed with very soft bamboo fleece. This item is hand printed with eco-friendly inks in a shape of a lovable sleeping bunny. The artist strives to make every item in the most eco-friendly way possible. This item was sewn with organic cotton thread and was stuffed with 'environmentally friendly fibers'. All designed and made in the artist's home studio.

I think this rabbit silk-screened hoodie is very cool. The bunnies are screenprints of an original illustration, printed by hand in non-toxic black ink in mirror-image. I like how this artist takes simple clothes and makes them really stand out with their silkscreen designs. If you are not a fan of rabbits, their store has lots of other designs too.

What an elegant and whimsical change purse!  Made from different cotton fabrics, and fully lined, the pouch is interfaced with two layers of stabilizer for shape and structure. The front features an applique of a leaping rabbit. I love the vintage look to the fabric, and the leaping bunny is just adorable.

Etsy Finds - Gingham!

Share |

Spring to me means gingham fabrics. Whether to make a fresh apron, or an Easter tablecloth, gingham fabrics remind me of new leaves on trees, crocus flowers, and that first red robin. So I decided to search Etsy for some gingham inspired items. Here is what I found:

I love these! This artist uses different fabrics to make unique covers to recipe books, and she uses gingham fabric as the border. She has a lot of different versions--each recipe book is completely unique. She never uses patterns! I love how she sews the title in--special touches like that make all the difference to me. The notebook itself has about 120 checkered pages, and the artist can supply lined paper if you request it.

Don't worry, these ladybugs won't ruin your picnic! I really like this ladybug and yellow gingham plate, it's so cheerful. The underside of this glass plate has been decoupaged with fabric that has a pattern of red ladybugs on a yellow checked background. I can imagine how great some lemon squares or cantaloupe would look on it. It is 7 3/4" in diameter and has been sealed with polyurethane. It is waterproof, but should not be immersed in water. The artist has a bunch of other cool plates too.

Of course, the main part of spring I look forward to is the wonderful smell of flowers blooming. I guess you could take some of that inside with this gingham lavender pouch. I like how the artist uses vintage fabrics to match with the gingham fabrics.

Hope you all had a great weekend! My weekend was busy but good. Henry had a soccer game and his team won, which was fun. Then we had a few friends over for dinner on Saturday night, which was great--it's amazing how easy it is to forget to see your friends, between raising kids and both working full time jobs.

Anyhow, congratulations to Grace for winning the horse journal! Expect an email soon.

New Floral Fabrics

Share |

Spring is around the corner (yes!) so we've been adding a lot of new fabrics over at the Warm Biscuit Bedding Co. in anticipation of warmer weather and days spent in the garden. Here are my three favorites:

This vintage cream poppy floral fabric will add a calm touch of class any room in the house. I love the vintage look of this floral pattern, which is a perfect for home sewing projects from homemade quilts to vintage curtains to old-fashioned pillows. Pink poppy flowers rest on a cream background in this classic print reminds me of Grandma's house!

In the past, the bags that livestock feed and seeds was shipped in were made of beautiful floral textiles. Farmers traditionally used these feed bags as fabric after they were done with them, turning them into quilts and aprons. Continue this tradition with red patchwork feedsack fabric. A mix of red, yellow and blue flowers with patchwork fillings make up this quilting cotton fabric.

If your looking for a floral fabric that's not too busy and easy to use as a coordinate, this blue sunflower lattice fabric just might do the trick. Cute white sunflowers rest on a blue plaid lattice in this quilting cotton fabric.

Cool Craft!

Have a lot of soda bottles waiting to be recycled? Then this craft is perfect for you! Not only does this craft give you any easy and cheap way to keep organized, but I love the fact that the only supply needed that you might have to buy is spray paint. For full directions go here.
Anybody have any other ideas for organizational crafts that are simple?

St. Patrick's Day Trivia

Share |

Well, I'm not pure Irish, but I've got some Irish blood on my dad's side of the family. Regardless, I enjoy attending the St. Patrick's Day Parade in New York with the kids. Here's some fun trivia I want to share:

-At the age of 16, Patrick considered himself a pagan. He converted to Christianity while enslaved by a sheep farmer. At 16, Irish brigands captured him and sold him into slavery in either Country Antrim or County Mayo in Ireland. When he was 22, he escaped, returned home, and then spent the next dozen years in a monastery in France. It is believed he turned to God while he was in captivity.

-It’s a legend that St. Patrick used the shamrock to teach pagans about Christianity. Patrick eventually returned to Ireland — after having dreamed the Irish were calling him back — and is said to have used the shamrock to explain the holy trinity to the pagans.

-St. Patrick introduced the Roman alphabet and Latin literature into Ireland. After his death, about 461AD, Irish monasteries flourished as centers of learning.

-Patrick incorporated traditional rituals into his lessons on Christianity. Patrick, in one instance, is said to have superimposed a sun, a significant symbol to the Irish, onto the Christian cross. Thus the Celtic cross was born, and veneration of the symbol would seem more palatable to the Irish.

-The St. Patrick’s Day parade first took place in New York City on March 17, 1762. This first parade was comprised of Irish soldiers serving in the English army to help them connect with their Irish roots and fellow countrymen. Nowadays, St. Patrick’s Day parades take place in major cities like New York, Montreal and Dublin.

Hope that was interesting to you!

Etsy Finds - Polka Dots!

Share |

I've always favored polka dot fabrics a polka dot designs. Not only are polka dots timeless, but they fun and always put a smile on my face. With that in mind, I did some searching on Etsy for polka dot themed items, and here are some of the best things I found:

Oh my goodness, these umbrella polka dot buttons are just too cute for words! These almost make me hope I lose a button on a skirt so I can have a good excuse to buy these. But I can easily imagine using these on a dress, shirt, purse, a girls hair bow...so many possibilities.

I don't have any baby showers coming up, but if I did I might pick up this giraffe rattle & teether. As the artist describes it, "Sweet little giraffe rattles in bold prints make for tons of gentle fun for your little one. Soft cotton fabric bodies are easy for baby to grip, shake and chew. Little jingle bells on the inside and soft fabric loop ears and tail make for a "not to loud" distraction too! Mix and match with a Roll-Up or washcloth set for a perfect baby shower gift." Nice!

Cute baby alert! But besides the fact that the newborn in this photo is adorable enough to eat, I love the warm green hand knit polka dot hat. The artist crochets these hats, and can do them in a variety of colors.

Hope you enjoyed these!

Fabric Craft

Over at Folksy I found the seller forestpoppy with these sweet lavender bags:

Anyway, the seller is in London, but it got me thinking that this would be any easy thing to make with some scrap fabric, and if you made up a batch it would be an easy gift to give to a bunch of friends.

Anyhow, if you haven't already, check out Folksy...it's basically a UK version of Etsy.
