Roof Top Movie Night!

Share |

My son, Henry the Great, turned 8 last week. To celebrate his special day, we invited his 8 best friends and their families to watch the first (and best!) Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark on our Manhattan rooftop!

We hung a white sheet on the building next to ours, borrowed a projector and set up surround sound. And in minutes, the Bodwell Theatre was open for business.

Henry set up water gun games for his friends to knock down pirate figures and WIN tickets. The kids then lined up for movie treats...tickets were redeemed for a can of Coke (Henry's fav!), candy or popcorn. Our over-caffeinated mob proceeded to run around pretending to be miniature Indiana Jones'. Chaos!

Finally, the sun set and we were all able to sit down to watch the real action. Our roof was transformed into a magical jungle complete with Harrison Ford in all his glory. Moms, Dads, grab a sheet, a picnic basket and host your own backyard movie adventure!

Blogging Babes

Share |

Whew...flew back on the red eye last night from San Francisco after attending the 4th Annual BlogHer conference. I was an utter newbie to the event. Yet, I was so excited to chat with these super savvy accomplished, fun loving, cutting edge women.

I stayed with my talented friend Jamie, of Jamies Painting & Design. And we met such blogging Super Novas like the sassy Southerner, Anne of My Tiny Kingdom, Alaskan Amazon Michelle of Scribbit and Shannon of Rocks in My Dryer.

From cocktail parties to breakout sessions, rooms were spilling over with estrogen.

The few lone males who bravely attended, quietly hugged the edges. This time, women owned the place. Our weekend, our agendas and our conversations were being "twittered", curtsied and blogged!

For me, the Blogosphere is like the Wild West for moms. I feel lucky to be hanging around the periphery... trying to figure out if I am going to saunter down main street with the Good, the Bad and the Ugly or head straight for the Saloon!
Too early to tell. But I was sure glad to fly home to my testosterone driven household!
