It's all about Michael Phelps in our household. The boys are practicing their best butterfly moves in the bathroom.
My favorite is each of them miming Michael's open mouth shout as the relay team won their relay race against the French. It doesn't get any better than the Olympic Games in my mind.
I love the idea of a young person working day in and day out, focusing on exceeding his personal best, out pacing the competition and willing to do what it takes to win. Now the question is whether after the games are over, the media quiets down, and things go back to "normal"...will the spark of desire be alive in my boys?
I had my own Olympic moments. In fact, I spent hours flinging myself around the yard, cartwheel after cartwheel while my best friend held up hand written scores...7.4! I was determined to perfect my gymnastic moves. But at the end of the day, my scrawny arms were sore and my legs crumbled beneath me. Olga Korbut made it look so easy and fun!
It's true. It's why we love to watch the Olympics. All of the winners make their feats look possible and achievable. Today, my Olympic feats are solidly tied to being a good mom!

We are also loving the olympics in my house. My 3 year old has just discovered she loves swimming. I didn't really think she would be interested in the Olympics yet but the other night I was watching Michael Phelps relay win on our DVR and she was FASCINATED. Now I record it every night so she can see the swimming contests. Who knows? Maybe she will be an olympic swimming champion!
i love him and i just love swimming... I hope he wins all of the gold's!!
so sweet!!! i LOVED the olympics as a kid!!
I love this olympics! I am up every night until 12:30am.....yawwwn....watching it all! It is addictive! Especially the swimming, how about that water cube!!!!!! I find myself even making sound jestures at the womens vollyball matches, you would never have caught me watching this stuff on ESPN! I do get a little frustrated with the viewing, being it alwasy seems to be China vs. US in the sports, there are other countries involved! I wish my cable allowed me to watch it on maybe a BBC or some other station broadcasting it. All in all, it is inspiring!
